π¬ WHY GYPSUM IS ESSENTIAL IN SUBSTRATES
βββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Gypsum supplies bioavailable calcium and sulfur while acting as a natural pH buffer, maintaining the optimal environment for mycelial development. Its most important mechanical function: it prevents grain kernels (rye, millet, sorghum) from clumping inside jars, making shaking easy and thorough. The result? Faster colonization thanks to increased surface-area contact between mycelium and substrate. Also essential in bulk substrates (CVG, straw, compost) to stabilize pH and reduce bacterial contamination.

π HOW TO USE
βββββββββββββββββββββββββ
1. Add gypsum during your grain soak or mix it directly into bulk substrate before pasteurization.
2. Recommended dosage: 2β5% of total dry weight (e.g. 20β50 g per kg of dry grain; 10β20 g per kg of bulk substrate).
3. Sterilize as usual in an autoclave or pressure cooker (15 PSI, 90 minutes for grain spawn; 60β90 minutes for bulk).
4. Store leftover powder in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
